TEHRAN PAPERS:

Transferring part of Iran's frozen funds from Iraq to Oman

October 17, 2023 - 17:55

In a note, the Iran newspaper discussed the transfer of the Islamic Republic’s frozen funds in Iraq to Oman. It wrote: Recently, a part of Iran's frozen foreign currency resources in Iraq was transferred to Omani banks to be used by the Central Bank of Iran.

Mohammad Reza Farzin, the governor of the Central Bank of our country, on the sidelines of the annual meeting of the International Monetary Fund and World Bank in Morocco, in a discussion with the governor of the Central Bank of Oman, emphasized the development of monetary, banking and commercial relations with Oman. Considering the transfer of a part of Iran's foreign exchange resources from Iraq to Oman, as well as the previous experience of the good cooperation of the Central Bank of Oman in the transfer and consumption of blocked resources and the need to accelerate the use of these new foreign exchange resources was another focal point of the talks between the governors of the central banks of the two countries in Morocco. In the meeting, the Omani central banker, while announcing the country's commitment to banking and monetary cooperation regarding Iran's transfer of resources, emphasized the necessity of developing bilateral economic cooperation.

Shargh: Peace tour

In an analysis, Shargh addressed Hossein Amir Abdollahian's diplomatic tour to regional countries amid the Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip and the worsening of the humanitarian situation in the coastal enclave. It wrote: Amir Abdollahian is seeking to create a consensus in his trip to regional countries to prevent the crisis from spreading. After his trip to Iraq, Lebanon and Syria, he went to Qatar on Saturday afternoon, which is undoubtedly the most important destination of his regional diplomatic tour. He talked with Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani, the prime minister and minister of foreign affairs of Qatar, about bilateral and regional issues, especially the developments in Palestine, particularly the situation in Gaza. He thanked Qatar for its strong support for Palestine and stated, “We informed the Zionist regime through its supporters that if its crimes in Gaza are not stopped, tomorrow will be too late.”

Vatan-e-Emrooz: Confusion of the Zionist regime with strategy of trigger mechanism

In an article, Vatan-e-Emrooz discussed the suspension of ground operations of the occupation army in Gaza under the pretext of unfavorable weather conditions. The paper said: This claim by the Zionists is made in a situation in which Iran, on behalf of the axis of resistance, on Saturday gave an ultimatum to the Zionist regime that “everyone's hand is on the trigger” in case it makes a military stupidity. He reminded the Zionists in that case a regrettable blow would be inflicted on them, which would also change the geography of the region. One aspect of Tehran's warnings is related to America. At the beginning of the Gaza war, without specifically mentioning the name of Iran and the axis of resistance, Washington warned the parties in conflict with Israel not to abuse the current situation. Iran and the resistance sent this signal to the Americans that Washington cannot invite others to show self-restraint and exclude itself from it. If the United States can participate in the unprecedented crimes of the Zionists in the Gaza Strip with all its power on the side of Israel, it does not have the authority to take action regarding the intervention of third parties in the war.

Hamshahri: The empty hand of the West

Hamshahri analyzed the recent statements of Biden and the American media and said: In an interview with CBS, the President of the United States, Joe Biden, when asked whether Iran was aware of the "Al-Aqsa Storm Operation” by the Palestinian Hamas movement against the Zionist regime, or whether it played a role in it, he claimed that Iran is constantly supporting Hamas and Hezbollah but there is no evidence that they knew in advance or helped plan this attack. This is while Ayatollah Khamenei, the Supreme Leader of the revolution, a few days after the attack, in a speech, referring to the operation of the Palestinian resistance against the occupying regime, said: "Those who say that the recent epic is the work of non-Palestinians have miscalculated. " Yet, U.S. officials, including John Kirby and Jake Sullivan, had previously claimed that Iran is an "accomplice" in these events due to its support for Hamas. The New York Times also wrote that the leaders of Iran were surprised by the sudden attack by Hamas on Israel and that they were not aware of this attack, and the United States, the Zionist regime and their regional allies have not found any evidence that Iran directly had helped to make a plan for the attack.
